<|°_°|> (Robot Face)
Album Cover Design
For the concept behind this album cover design I really wanted to explore digital illustration and gradient meshes while exploring the music of Caravan Palace.
Caravan Palace is a band originating from France and specializing in Electroswing music. Their mascot Georges the Robot was reminiscent of the Dada Movement and really struck a chord with me. The unique typography and melding of machine and man as a focus felt as though the Dada movement would fit the album and it’s genre well.

One of the large challenges when it came to the development of this design was incorporating the name of the album. While the design of my rendition of Georges has a head shape based upon the symbols that make up the album’s name (<|°_°|>). While the solution I found might not be one of immediate recognition I ultimately feel as though it fits the design in a satisfactory manner.

The backside of the album was really where I wanted to explore the typographic style of Dada. The primary source of inspiration for this was Zang Tumb Tumb and the way in which it used interesting typography to create shapes and movement. This was also an opportunity for me to try and reinforce the title of the album given the front side’s more nuanced approach at tackling the integration of it into the overall design of the piece.
